On February 9, 2026, AbleBooks volunteers Abubakar Idris, Ayuba Bala, and Nehemiah Danjuma reached three deaf schools across Kaduna State in a single outreach, placing books and introducing animated stories to students and teachers in each location.
At Demonstration School for the Deaf Children (DCDC), Kawo, volunteers donated copies of all available storybooks and screened the animated story with students in small groups. Teachers engaged actively with the material, and the school has since committed to giving students ongoing access to the animated stories through their computer lab. At Kaduna State Special Education School (KASSES), the team facilitated an interactive reading and discussion session using The Chess Champions and Being Different is Fun.
Three schools. Three communities of deaf learners with access to stories that reflect them. When institutions commit to embedding inclusive materials into their existing infrastructure, as DCDC did with their computer lab, it moves the work from a one-time visit to something that lasts.
With this outreach, our books and animations now have the potential to reach over 800 Deaf learners. That’s 800 more opportunities for representation, literacy growth, and confident storytelling.
