The Equip-A-Library Project is our way of filling school libraries with inclusive storybooks that reflect the diverse realities of children, especially those with disabilities. Many school libraries in Nigeria either lack books entirely or carry materials that don't speak to the experiences of all children. Through this project, we donate beautifully illustrated, disability-inclusive books to schools, making sure no child is left out of the joy of reading.
We work closely with school leaders, teachers, and special education units to identify schools with little or no library resources. Once selected, we deliver a set of AbleBooks titles' each one written and illustrated to be fun, relatable, and accessible. We also provide sign language video versions of our books, so deaf and hard-of-hearing students can enjoy them too. Each delivery is more than a donation—it’s a chance to create a safe, inclusive reading space that encourages learning, empathy, and confidence.
So far, we’ve reached over 50 schools and impacted thousands of students. With each library we equip, we take one more step toward inclusive education. Our dream? To make sure every school, no matter where it is, has stories that every child can connect with.
